I love the E! channel! In fact, I have my DVR set to record Fashion Police every Friday night which I usually get around to watching the next day or so when I finally have some downtime. I typically have my computer on my lap while I have the show playing in the background, and today was no different.
Thing is, my ears perked up when I saw the preview of Kate Bosworth's donning blue-dyed tips and JewelMint's Lost City Necklace (available in September) to a Coldplay concert in Los Angeles on August 3rd - as seen here in this post.
My first initial response was "Oh NO!". My husband thought something terrible had just happened when I assured him everything was okay and that I just wasn't sure what they were about to say about Kate. He chuckled it off while I sat in suspense to see what would happen next.

To tell you the truth, I like Joan Rivers. I think she's funny and of course she's all about the "shock factor" with her jokes. I love Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne, and especially George Kotsiopoulos. Except last night, Giuliana and Joan did not show any love to Kate - none at all.
Kelly and George stuck up for her outfit which included a button up floral shirt from Missoni's Winter 2011 Collection (above), but the hair the didn't get much love from anyone.
I looked around online to see if I could find any videos from last night's Fashion Police episode and ended up finding a video of outtakes that seemed to be really quite harsh compared to the actual episode that aired last night...
Watch the unaired video outtakes about Kate Bosworth's look from Fashion Police here, titled "Toilet Tresses".
First of all, for all we know Kate had her hair dyed like this for a project. For example, I could totally see her rocking this for a JewelMint shoot or for one of her many other projects she is currently working on. Didn't StyleCaster.com recently shoot a neon Converse and JewelMint themed photo shoot styled by Cher Coulter? Makes me wonder if Kate was a part of it too which could possibly be an explanation.
Second, and I even hate to bring it up, but it's the bulimia joke. Not really funny to some, and overall probably really inappropriate, but it is Joan Rivers and she's never really, well, not inappropriate. It's kind of what she does, and I'm assuming that is why they cut that part out of the actual episode on TV - probably a good idea.
Lastly, just because you're skinny doesn't mean your anorexic or bulimic - but as adults, we all know this. I mean heck, this one time I was downtown and this homeless person started yelling at me on the street to eat something - not even kidding you. LOL I mean, yeah this poor old man was homeless, but he started chasing me down in his wheelchair screaming repeatedly over the traffic at me to eat food. I couldn't help but laugh after the initial shock wore off. It seriously could have been a scene right out of a movie!
So I guess my point is that Kate seems like a such a sweetheart so I could totally imagine her laughing this off. I mean, you kind of have to. By the way, I think Kate would make a fabulous future guest commentator on FP, don't you think? As a total joke, she should show up with her tips dyed blue! ;)

Now, I don't want to get all crazy here and while I wouldn't ever dye the tips of my hair blue, I want to say a few things about this...

Did you see last night's episode of Fashion Police? Do you think Joan went too far? What are your thoughts about what was said about Kate?
I read on Cher's facebook that the blue hair was for the Stylecaster shoot, so you are right about that! (Good detective work on your part btw). I hate Joan Rivers and her mouth, never watch that show and to make jokes about eating disorders is poor taste IMO.
ReplyDeleteLily-- you are so sweet and loyal. Thanks for the post. Kate & JewelMint in general are lucky to have you in their corner. Jessica Robison
ReplyDeleteLily,
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice that you stick up for Kate. Making fun of someone's clothes/hairstyle is one thing, especially since those things are temporary. Making fun of someone's body is another thing. They say nasty things about Kate being "too skinny" but they'll slam any female celebrity as "fat" and "bloated" if she is over a size 2! It's such a vicious cycle.
I've seen the show a few times and I know that this isn't the first time they've slammed Kate. At least she tried something different! I bet in 6 months they'll be calling blue tips the best new fashion trend.
